Reading Canoe Club is a community sports club organised around kayaking, and canoeing. It has been in existence for over 50 years and has a purpose-built clubhouse on the bank of the River Thames in Caversham. The club house offers boat storage, a large club room overlooking the river, showers and changing rooms, a weights room, kitchen, servery and barbecue area all on a private site.

Our members range from beginners to European and World champions and social members. The Club offers regular training sessions for its members, both junior and adult, from learner to GB level, and also organises beginner courses during the spring and summer months for both adults and juniors.
Members of the Club regularly participate in races both in marathon and in sprint disciplines at regional races, national regattas and the Devizes to Westminster 126-mile long race. The Club organises its own races multiple times a year. The longer Thameside 1 and Thameside 2 races take place during the winter, while during the warmer months, we run a marathon race (known as a Hasler) in the summer and we are renowned in the sport for our K4 races (four in a boat) usually held in the autumn. We have been proud to organise and hold the National Marathon Championships many times from the club – an exciting weekend of racing to participate in or simply to help at or watch.

The River Thames is a superb location on which to learn to canoe, train or participate in recreational activities. If you would like to join us or learn more about the Club, please reach out to us at info@reading-canoe.org.uk or go to our beginners page and sign up for a beginners course.
